The SR20DET has multiple iterations, visually identifiable by the engine cover. Among S13 Silvias (and 180SXs), Black Top and Red Top are the two types of SR20DET commonly seen in the market. However, there's no difference in performance. Minor ECU changes, a newer wiring harness, and a larger oxygen sensor are what set …

The SR20DET engine comprises a closed deck, an aluminum block, an aluminum cylinder head, alloy cylinder liners, and hydraulic valve lifters. With a square bore of 3.39 inches (86 mm) and a stroke of 3.39 inches (86 mm), the SR20DET produced 201-247 hp and 196-205 lb-ft during its 13-year production cycle.
SR20DET Red top is a more powerful version, produced since 1990 to 1994. Compression ratio is abated to 8.3. Also it uses Garrett T28 (TB2804) turbocharger, boost pressure has increased to 10.5 psi (0.72 bar). ... For Nissan Silvia S14 the version SR20DET Black top was produced. It was equipped with variable valve timing system …
Redtop and midyear S13 blacktops use a z32 sensor. I believe you should go by year as well if buying a Z32 sensor. Late S13 blacktops use the Sentra sensor. KA water temp sensor doesn't work, or at least it didn't for me. (S13 98 Blacktop) S15 Exhaust Manifold Gasket (S15 metal gasket vs. stock paper gasket) Nissan Part #: 14036-75F00

Variable valve timing system and a different turbo are the significant changes from the S13 SR20DET engines. S13 redtop and S13/180sx blacktop are mechanically identical. The blacktop is newer. S14 blacktop has a hump in the valve cover, a larger turbo, and VTC on the intake cam. Either one will fit into either chassis. Whatever engine you have you must have the correct harness and ECU. All the sensors must match as well.
Hi, I wan't to know how thick the stock SR20DE head gasket is? The thickest aftermarket head gasket that I have found is 2mm, so if the stock head gasket is 1mm and I swap to a 2mm gasket I'll get a compression ratio of 9.0:1 instead of 10:1 that I have now.. How much boost do you guys think a SR20DE with 9.0:1 compression on. 95octane can …
S13 S14 And S15 the chassis codes for the Silvia/180sx/240sx. The red top and blacktop refers to newer or older motors for those chassis. They also run different turbos depending on which motor you get. What you need for a FWD car is a U12, U13, W11, or GTI-R motor. These also have different turbos amoung the motors too.
Re: How to JDM Zenki S14 SR20DET swap into a DOHC S13 (bgsr240) Post by mestizo » Mon Apr 14, 2008 10:17 am. The stock boost pressure sensor tells the ecu what boost the motor is at so it can make adjustments. SR20DET differences Chat. before the flaming there is s13 redtop (first motor) comes with a journal bearing t25 which puts out mabye 200 to the wheels. s13 blacktop (all blacktops from here on) same as above just a tad newer as they were the second generation s14 has a beefier t28 journal bearing and vvti produces 240ish? stock …
Its hard to tell exactly when the s14 blacktop has a more efficient turbo and bigger injectors. 235hp I think is what the s14 blacktop is rated at on stock 7 lbs. You said: Redtop s13 has 370s while the s14 blacktop has 440s I believe!!! that is wrong: s13 red tops as well as s14 black tops have 370cc inj.. s15 sr20det black tops have 480cc inj ...

601. LocationOrange, CA. Posted July 11, 2007. the only difference honestly is the fact that it is a newer motor and would imply that it has less mileage. The s13 blacktops also come with finned heads towards the front of the valve cover, but i hav e also seen some of the redtops come like this as well. Quote.
AN S14 IS AN S14...NOT AN S14 BLACKTOP. i think there needs to be a clear understanding of that... S13 Redtop sr20detS13 Blacktop sr20detS14 sr20dets15 sr20det there was never a s14 redtop or s15 redtop, therefor the 'blacktop' designation is NOT needed when describing those motors, it will only lead to confusion...
They are about the same redtops will be cheaper for the most part. S14 blacktops have a better turbo, have better head parts, and a few others. The only down side for the blacktop is its variable valve timing. Pretty much the bigger the cams and higher power you put out the more it will jack up.
s13 blacktop has s14 pistons and other bottom end parts, but has the same top end as an s13 redtop and all parts are interchangeable between the two. s14 blacktop has a notch in the back, vtc, and different intake ports. The intake change and vtc were an effort to lower emissions and improve low end torque.
Look at the intake manifolds, the S14's intake manifold has the throttle body higher - thank you sblack13 S13 Redtop vs S13 Blacktop Color of the valve cover (obviously) All blacktops have fins on the head Blacktops have a fat O2 sensor S13 Blacktop vs S13 Type-X Blacktop Look for the J4 ECU on the Type-X, I don't know of …
Max Torque: 203 lb-ft at 3,200 RPM. Nissan SR20DET is an inline-4, 2.0 Liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine that Nissan Motors produced from 1989 to 2002. It was first housed, in transversed form, in the Nissan Bluebird 2000SS. SR20DET engines are an alternative and eventually replaced the cast-iron CA20 engine.
The s15 has the variable intake timming, yet another different turbo (still a t28 but a little different in the turbine section I believe), has a six speed transmission, a higher compression ratio (9 to 1 vs 8.5 to 1 on the s13/s14), and makes 250 hp. The six speed is a little weaker, because the gears are in fact thinner.
The changes/advantages of the s13 Blacktop:*. -Newer. -Usually lower mileage. -Usually about $500 more expensive (because its newer) -Minor ECU changes 96-98 (interchangeable with all s13 ECU's) -Minor wire harness changes. -Larger Oxygen Sensor (still narrow band, no performance gain) There seems to be a misconception that …
The Redtop is cheapper stick with that. Blacktop is a six speed tranny and yes it has a little more power than the redtop, but the Redtop can make the same power as the blacktop. I would say if you are going to get a S14 and have the money for a Blacktop, then get it. If money is a issue Get the a s13 with a redtop.
S14 SR20DET's use a different ECU and harness, these are extremely expensive and hard to find. Variable valve timing system and a different turbo are the significant changes from the S13 SR20DET engines. The S13 uses a "low port" intake design vs. the S14 "high port" design. Performance: The stock turbo will be safe to 13-15 psi.

I just bought a 1993 240sx and am planning to do an SR swap. I can't decide wheter to shell out the extra cash to buy a black top instead of a red top. I was wondering if there are any major differences in performance and if so, what those differences are. Any help would be great!
